WOMC 104.3 WOMC Dick Purtan Radiothon

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

Every year Oldies 104.3 WOMC , out of Detroit, MI, has a huge Radiothon to help raise money for The Salvation Army.  This morning while sitting at work listening to their online broadcast I got to thinking.  I decided to set up my own fund raising page to help support The Salvation Army and the Radiothon.  Click here for a direct link to my fund raising page.  I set a goal for myself for $10,000 so hopefully by this time next year we can meet that goal!

Sincerely,

Bob Daniels

A lot of you probably have heard of Kevin or read one of his articles online or in magazines or watched one of his videos online. As always he did an excellent job on this production. I watched this video twice already and learned a lot of new tricks of the trade. This is a must have for ANY detailer!

The return of the Detroit Grand Prix!

Friday, February 16th, 2007

I never got to go to the Detroit Grand Prix as a kid and then they stopped having the race all together.  They used to race through the streets of Detroit, which I am sure we will never see again, and then they moved to Belle Isle in Detroit.  The Detroit City Council just approved a 5 year contract with Roger Penske to bring the race back to Belle Isle!  I can’t wait until tickets go on sale!

Here is the information from the Associated Press:

The Detroit City Council approved a contract Thursday that will return a major car race to the nation’s motor capital after a five-year absence. The council approved a five-year contract with the nonprofit Downtown Detroit Partnership, chaired by racing legend Roger Penske, to organize the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press reported.

The Labor Day weekend races will mark Detroit’s return to the Grand Prix circuit for the first time since 2001.

The American Le Mans Series, which features several classes of sports cars including Corvettes, will debut Sept. 1. The Indy Racing League will compete in the Grand Prix on Sept. 2.

The races are to held on Detroit’s Belle Isle, an island park east of downtown on the Detroit River.

After the 20th Detroit Grand Prix ran in 2001 on Belle Isle, a contract between Championship Auto Racing Teams and promoter International Management Group expired.

Auto parts supplier Lear Corp. Accepts $2.8B Takeover Bid

Friday, February 9th, 2007

This article is from the Channel 4 News- Detroit website.

POSTED: 9:51 am EST February 9, 2007

Auto parts supplier Lear Corp. said Friday that it has agreed to be acquired by a group affiliated with billionaire investor activist Carl Icahn for about $2.8 billion.Under terms of the deal, Icahn-controlled American Real Estate Partners LP is paying $36 a share, and a Lear spokesman said that amounts to about $2.8 billion. It also includes the assumption of about $2.5 billion in debt. That is more than $4 a share below its closing price of $40.07 on Thursday when takeover speculation drove Lear’s price higher.

“Lear is an excellent company with a strong management team in place,” Icahn said in a statement. “We look forward to working with Lear’s team to improve its long-term competitiveness, capitalize on growth opportunities globally and to build an even stronger and more valuable company in the future.”Under the terms of the agreement, Southfield-based Lear may solicit alternative proposals for 45 days from the execution of the agreement and intends to consider any such proposals. Lear also may, at any time, respond to unsolicited proposals. If Lear accepts another proposal, a break-up fee would be payable to AREP.Otherwise, the company said the deal is expected to close by the end of the second quarter. The agreement is subject to the approval of a majority of Lear shareholders, regulatory filings and other customary approvals.”We believe that the transaction price, which represents a multiple of about 9 times our forecasted 2007 core operating earnings — excluding the interior business, provides shareholders with significant value,” said Bob Rossiter, Lear’s chairman and chief executive. The offer had been made public Monday.

Road Salt!

Friday, February 9th, 2007

It is impossible to keep my truck (Ford F-150) clean with all of this road salt spread throughout Metro Detroit. Coming home from lunch today I found myself driving through a cloud of smoke that ended up being a cloud of salt kicked up into the air from passing cars. I can’t wait for that first Spring rain that washes it all away!
